Everything you see here is designed by Frances Day. I live and work in the Cotswolds in the UK, and I have been creating things using fabric, needle and thread as long as I can remember.
I hope you enjoy looking at my collection.
I was recently the runner-up at the Wearable Art Festival in Painswick. You can see a short video of my entry here.
This costume also incorporates LEDs and other electronics: I am currently working with electronics to create 'smart' clothing and textiles.
The category for this entry was 'Power Dressing'. I have interpreted this by representing the sun, our local star, and tried to show its power and beauty.
The corset top has a NASA photograph of the sun printed on silk at the front and back, and the same photo is used for the moulded silk mask. The sleeves and head-dress are shibori (a Japanese technique to create 3-D impressions in silk). The skirt was made of many, many metres of organza sewn in 'flames' around a spherical frame.
